3 Living Room Interior Design Trends for 2025

Another year is almost over. I’m not quite sure where the days have gone though as the year seems like it’s flown over. But it’s time to think ahead. So today I’ve been thinking about some key interior design trends for our living rooms that will be leading the way in 2025.

I’ve outlined my top three in this post. Let’s take a look.

1.      Eco-Luxe Minimalism

There’s no getting away from the trend of sustainable living. I’m a big advocate for sustainability, but at the same time, I also love all things luxury.

This is where eco-luxe comes in, all while embracing simplicity. So in Eco-Luxe Minimalism, we’re prioritising eco-conscious materials. I’m thinking natural textures like reclaimed wood, bamboo, and stone being paired with refined finishes such as brushed brass and soft, organic fabrics.

Here are some key features:

  • Neutral colour palettes (e.g., soft beige, greys, and muted greens).

  • Furniture with clean lines and modular functionality.

  • Sustainable upholstery fabrics like organic cotton or recycled textiles.

In my search for sustainable living room furniture, I came across this beautiful square coffee table by Tikamoon:

Solid teak square coffee table situated in a living room

It’s solid teak wood, but crucially is FSC certified. This means the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) has certified that the forests used to create the table are being managed responsibly and meet the highest environmental and social standards

I think this table looks natural and luxurious, and fits this space beautifully.

2.      Retro Revival with a Contemporary Twist

My next interior design trend for living rooms heading into 2025 is inspired by the bold aesthetics of the 1970s. Or the return of retro but with a contemporary twist. I do like to revive past trends from time to time but incorporating modern trends in with it.

So here, we’re incorporating vibrant colours, geometric patterns, and statement furniture pieces, but with a modern and refined edge.

Here are some key features:

  • Warm, earthy tones like terracotta, mustard yellow, and deep teal.

  • Velvet or bouclé textures in soft furnishings.

  • Sculptural lighting and retro-style armchairs with contemporary finishes.

I wanted to use a rug as an example of this interior design trend because I can really capture the colours and vibe of the 1970s, all while fitting it into a modern-looking living room. Here’s an idyllic rug I found on Amazon, sold by JUFUMUP:

Modern mid century area rug, orange brown black gray arched lines non slip area rug for living rooms

It really hits on the mid-century modern feel, but blends perfectly with the modern style of the living room.

Nostalgia with a dose of modernity!

3.      Smart Comfort

Everyone loves a bit of comfort. Not least me! Even better is if that comfort exudes smart, but without sacrificing the aesthetics of the living room. Think smart home with all the comforts we want in our home.

We really want technology to be seamlessly integrated into living spaces for this living room trend.

Here are some key features:

  • Smart furniture with built-in charging stations or storage solutions.

  • Automated blinds, mood lighting, and climate control systems controlled via apps.

  • Ergonomically designed sofas and chairs for ultimate relaxation.

But when I think of smart homes, I immediately think of cables…I really dislike cables when they’re on show! It can really ruin the aesthetics of a space, and doesn’t project comfort either.

That’s why I’ve been looking into living room units that come with integrated cable management systems. So if they look luxurious, and hide the cables so we can utilise our smart devices, it’s a win-win!

Here’s one I found on Wayfair that hits both the comfort and smart factors, all while exuding luxury:

TV Stand cabinet with glass shelf & RGB LED lighting, gaming entertainment center for smart comfort in living rooms

This unit can house the TV and games console and there isn’t a cable in sight!

Within this interior design trend, I would also look for sofas with built-in USB charging ports, power reclining options, and even those with integrated speakers. Some high-end models may offer features like heated seats or massage functions. Smart comfort!

I think these three living room trends will be on show across the interior design industry for 2025 and beyond.
